The lay of the land
A waterfront community built on a grid of saltwater canals that feed straight into the Gulf of Mexico. Most homes sit on a private dock, and the barrier islands are a short idle out.
Boats, fishing, sunsets over the water, and buyers who want the Gulf at the end of the dock.

Hernando Beach is Hernando County's direct Gulf-access canal community — a quiet grid of dredged saltwater canals where the dock behind the house matters nearly as much as the house itself. Buyers come here for one reason: to keep the boat in the backyard and the Gulf at the end of the channel.
The canal system splits into direct-access sections, where there are no fixed bridges between your dock and open Gulf water, and indirect sections reached through a neighbor's channel. Idle time to the open water runs roughly ten to twenty minutes from most direct-access docks, which is why deep-water boats — center consoles, offshore rigs, pontoon tritoons on lifts — are everywhere you look. Seawalls, private docks, davits and covered lifts are standard equipment here, not upgrades. The inshore fishing outside the channel is some of the best on the Nature Coast: scalloping in season, gag grouper, snapper, trout and redfish are all within a short run.
Life ashore is unhurried. Shoal Line Boulevard threads the community with dockside seafood, bait shops and marinas, and the drive to open Gulf sunsets at Pine Island takes minutes. Everyday needs — groceries, medical, big-box shopping — are ten to fifteen minutes inland in Spring Hill. US-19 connects to the Suncoast Parkway for the run to Tampa, and Weeki Wachee Springs State Park sits practically next door.
Weeki Wachee Springs State Park
The famous mermaid shows, Buccaneer Bay water park, and paddling on one of Florida's clearest spring-fed rivers — minutes from the canals.
Pine Island Beach Park
The county's Gulf beach park: shallow, calm water, picnic spots under the oaks, and the best sunset on the coast.
Jenkins Creek Park & Boat Ramp
A fishing pier, boardwalk and kayak launch right on Shoal Line Boulevard for days you'd rather stay close to home.
Bayport Park
Historic ramp and picnic grounds where the Weeki Wachee River spills into the Gulf — a favorite short boat run.
Withlacoochee State Trail
Forty-six miles of paved rail-trail through the county, an easy drive for road cycling and long walks.
